Mayor Pro Tem Vivian Burke has served on the Winston-Salem City Council for thirty-seven years. .A dedicated community servant, she has provided leadership in fourteen major city initiatives and is involved in 14 community affiliations. She is a founding member of the NC Black Elected Officials Association.
She earned a B.S. degree from Elizabeth City State University and a M.S. degree from North Carolina A&T State University. The Doctor of Humane Letters has been received from Livingstone College, Winston-Salem State University and Elizabeth State University. She has also received the Prestige Certificate Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
