State Representative Jean Farmer-Butterfield has served six terms as the representative of the 24th House representing district-Pitt and Wilson counties. Rep. Farmer-Butterfield was the first black female in Eastern North Carolina to be elected to the NC House of Representatives. She has served as House Majority Whip, Vice Chair of the Legislative House Democratic Women, Chair of NC Legislative Democratic Women’s Caucus and Second Vice-Chair of the NC Legislative Black Caucus. 
 
A former teacher, Health and Human Services Coordinator, Manager, Director and Consultant, she has been a lobbyist and consultant to members of the NC General Assembly and US Congress. She holds a B.A. and a M.A. degree from North Carolina Central University.
